| Well friends, it has really been a long time since I've updated this thing. But Pastor Michael is pushing for a return of xanga, so I'll support that. I've been meaning to update this thing because I AM in college now, actually I'm in my second semester now of college. So I'll give a run down of what's been going on since the week before Fine Arts: - My short sermon made callbacks at Nationals and our large vocal ensemble got 10th in the nation. (Amazing, I know).
- I moved in to Central Bible College in Springfield, MO and roomed with my friend Josiah for the first semester.
- I was on a drama team called Resonate for the first semester and we traveled and helped out churches and Convoy of Hope.
- I made Heartsong! Which is the premier traveling music team for CBC. And I play percussion for them.
- I made a TON of new, amazing friends at CBC.
- Second semester, I moved in with one of them, Abraham, to another room.
- I've gotten to play percussion, bass, and drum set for chapels so far, which I'm excited about.
- I announced a couple basketball games for CBC since the main announcer was gone, and I'm hoping I'll be able to be the announcer next year for all their games. It was pretty fun.
And that brings us to now. Yesterday, some of my friends and I saw Republican candidate, Mike Huckabee, at the Springfield Airport. He seems like a real genuine guy who has great Christian morals. He used to be a Southern Baptist pastor and the Governor of Arkansas. If he's still on the ballot in November, he's got my vote. Tomorrow, Heartsong has our first gig outside of the school at a church in Springfield. So tonight we have to set up and have a sound check. I'm pretty pumped up about it. After this, we'll be gone like every other week traveling to Arkansas, Illinois, Tennesee, and other places. Then in May, we'll be gone May 3-28 traveling the east coast. That's going to be AMAZING and we're also going to New York and hopefully we'll be able to hang out in the city. Um... that's pretty much it I think. I'm sure there's a whole lot of other stuff I'm forgetting. I'm still single, which is amazing at CBC. I'm running sound for a massive youth group of about 200 at Central Assembly and I also help teach their 6th grade doctrines Sunday school class whenever I'm not gone. My classes are going pretty well. I like them all. This semester, they are: - New Testament History and Literature
- Pentateuch
- Intro to Philosophy
- Pastoral Theology
- A/G History and Polity
And I was in Music in Ministry, but I tested out of the class because I knew everything that they were going to teach. Well, that's my life these days. No band, no choir. It's a little different, but I like it a lot better this way. I'm getting excited to graduate and be a Pastor somewhere. I can get my credentials in about two years, so then I'll actually be able to be a Pastor. Hopefully I'll update this thing a bit more than I have been. -Michael
| Wow, it's been almost four months since my last post which took place right after District Fine Arts. Now, I am three days away from leaving for National Fine Arts in Indianapolis. I am really starting to get excited about it, although that probably means I should start practicing my sermon non-stop (especially now that I want to have it memorized instead of using notes). So, I was about to start writing about stuff that has happend in the past four months, but I decided against it due to the fact that I won't be able to remember most of it. Here are some key points though... -I graduated from High School (always a good thing) -I spent two weeks playing bass guitar for a Christian recording artist from Nashville at the Northern MO camps (and that was AMAZING!). -I developed an intense love of the TV show "Scrubs" -I traveled to Disney World with my mom and Casey for my birthday and that was a blast. The trip went perfectly and I doubt we could have planned it any better. -I played bass guitar for the musical "Cats." -I got a new fatty computer that I am currently writing this entry on (with a 19" LCD flat panel screen) That's about it for the highlights for the past few months. 6 days after I get back from Indy, I move in to my college. This is definatly a new thing for me. I can't say that I've ever been to college before. But I am SO excited and nervous at the same time. I'm not really scared-nervous, but I have no idea what to expect, so the aspect of going into something different far away from home makes me kind of nervous. But I feel like I'm ready for this next step in my life. Well, that's what's been going on in case you wondered. Nobody really uses Xanga anymore except for my Canadian brother, and his entries are usually pretty good, eh? But he is slowly progressing into the blogspot region, and I think eventually when I move out, I might consider one of those so everyone can keep up with my college life. I hope I write again in the next four months. -Michael | | |
| Ok, it's probably time for another update in my life. I've been pretty busy lately with church stuff, school stuff, band stuff, and graduation stuff. Let's look into the past couple months... Fine Arts: Our church pretty much kicked butt at Fine Arts this year. Everyone who participated from Christian Chapel advanced to Nationals in something. My Short Sermon won the Merit award, which means I got the highest short sermon score; Our worship team won Merit; My Christian band that I play drums for won Merit; Ryan Abshier's piano solo won Merit; and James Keathley's male vocal solo won Merit. Also, our large vocal ensemble advanced to Nationals. Spring Break: I auditioned for a music scholarship at CBC, and then I got sick. That was it. Battle of the Bands: I was asked to play bass guitar for a Rock Bridge band called "A Grand Escort" and just a few days after I joined, we passed the RB auditions. So we're 1 of 4 bands from "Rock Bridge" that will compete against 4 Hickman Bands at the BLUE NOTE on May 10th. BLUE MAN GROUP: This past Wednesday, I saw the Blue Man Group at Mizzou Arena. They were AMAZING!!!! I think that it would be so awesome to be a Blue Man.
And then I have random practices for school band and stuff. And then the worship team is playing the morning of the 22nd for big church. And I'm also preaching in those services. So life is fairly busy right now. And yet I still take the time out to type on my long forgotten Xanga. -Michael
| So it's been a while. Well, since a month a five days ago (last xanga entry) not much has changed. The only real drastic change is the fact that Pastor Michael and Lynnelle are moving to Naperville, Illinois. I'm actually doing better than I thought I would with all of this change. I'm sure the tears will flow on their final day. They are special people that have impacted my life for good. It's thanks to them and God that I plan on being a Pastor when I get a little bit older. I hope that I could be an intern at their massive church when it comes time for me to find an intern position. Their church is amazing and I'm glad that they're excited to go. By the way.... I figured out how my new digital camera works and I actually took it somewhere with me today. So many pictures will fill this entry. I already have driving directions ready for whenever I go up there in the near future.
Today some of us helped Pastor Michael clear most of his office out. Here are some pictures from that time. The man himself.
Gunnar taking the pictures out of the office.
James and I "laminating" the pictures with tape.
That's a lot of pictures.
They helped too.
He was walking kind of fast, so that's why Henry is blurry. Call it an "Action shot."
So yes. Hopefully more pictures will come soon now that I've figured it out and their last days are coming up. I am blessed that they've been a vital part in my life.... But they're not gone yet! -Michael

| Recently I bought Velvet Elvis by Rob Bell on iTunes in Audiobook format. I usually listen to it right before I fall asleep but today I decided to listen to it while I played video games because I already went through my youth ministry podcast twice today. And might I say that Rob Bell is very profound in a simple way. Right before I turned it off to go downstairs, I heard him say, "Are you smoking what you're selling?" And I started to laugh out loud. But then I really thought about it. Are we as Christians really doing what we are telling people to do? Am I? It makes you think. I hope I am and I seriously try to, but I'm sure I slip up many times. I love how even though Rob Bell has been called by some to be the next Billy Graham, he shows his faults very quickly. He can't be the "Super Pastor" which Pastor Michael has preached about before. ANYWAYS... On Friday, some of the youth group went skiing. And it was flat out awesome. I've never been skiing before, so I didn't know how bad I would be. But I surprised myself and got the hang of it quickly. A guy that looked like Santa, but I called God, saved me twice when the artificial snow covered my $8 ski glasses and I wiped out. I got a pretty cool bruise on my knee from one wipe out. Why is it we get all of this snow and ice on a four day weekend and we probably won't miss any school for it?!?!? Peace, love, and Nooma, -Michael | | |
